Many of our hometown SongFarmers Chapters are anxious to start holding their local gathering again. Some have already started … so here are suggestions and pointers to open your front porch to music and community.
FIRST: Remember Covid19 is real. It is still there and still infectious. Every caution should be observed always, whether you are heading to the grocery or visiting your local hardware store.
SECOND: This is not the time for large, shoulder to shoulder ANYTHING, no less music events. The WFPA/SongFarmers as a community can not recommend or tell a hometown chapter what to do.
Here are some basic suggestions for those thinking they are getting close to holding a gathering …
- USE COMMON SENSE: singing sprays droplets, so wear a mask and encourage everyone else to wear one. Older adults and persons with any pre-existing health conditions are at increased risk.
- PRIVATE: do not advertise the gathering as though an open, public event. Small and private so there can be ample space in between those attending. This virus spreads from person-to-person mostly among within 6 feet.
- HAND WASHING with soap & water, and sanitizer should be available to all to use.
- INSTRUMENTS: it is recommended not to share instruments, especially flutes, violins and harmonicas, or cell phone/iPads etc.
- MICROPHONES: ideally mics and a sound system aren’t needed at a SongFarmers gathering but if they are, do not share the mic.
- STAY SIMPLE & BE KIND ’nuff said

The bottom line is we want everyone to be safe, no matter what their decisions. Be careful, celebrate the music of your own front porch, and remember to wash your hands after every song 🙂 mj
